If you have to give craps
a second name, it has to be "Complicated".
Craps can be the most complicated game in the
casino, and it doesn't help if you choose to
play it that way. But, it can be simple if
you play it simply.
The rules mentioned below will help you make
craps much more simpler. And, make sure you leave
the most complicated bets for more seasoned players.
So, lets start with the two most important things,
Dice and Odds.
Dice:
The game of craps consist of two dice, having
six sides each. Both the dices are identical
in every respect. To see what different totals
can be achieved with two dices, look at the chart
below. Note: How seven is the most likely number
to be rolled, with each number being symmetrical.
Odds:
Now since we already know about the dice, we
can take the next step. With the knowledge of
the dice we can predict the odds of any number
coming up on a roll. This will help you to know
why the rules of craps have been put the way
they have been. To give you an example the Odds
against (Odds are most often expressed this way)
rolling a 4 on your next roll are 11 to 1. You
can easily figure it out by by predicting the
number of combinations in which 4 can be made
with 2 dice, compared to the number of combinations
that two dice can make, which is 36. That means,
you have a 3 in 36, or 1 in 12 chance that a
4 will come up on any given roll. To express
these odds as 'against', you would say the odds
against rolling a four are 11 to 1 ( think of
it as 11 non 4's to one 4 for a total of 12 rolls).
Once you understand the best bets, the table
layout, and the cycle of play, craps rule will
automatically start to fit in place. All your
fears about the craps table layout will also
be taken care off.
Scraps table:
As said earlier, scraps can be complicated.
But, it can also be quite frustrating especially
the scraps table layout. The table can become
a bit overload, since there are many types of
bets that one can place in scraps which are placed
in different corners of the table. Fortunately,
since most of the little places to bet on are
rather poor bets and should simply be avoided,
the things become much more easier. Now, we will
look at the different bets and how to place them
including the Pass Line bet, which is the easiest
one among all the bets.
The best bets:
For the moment let's leave 2 of the best bets,
which are also the best bets in the entire casino,
aside. The best bets include the Pass Line bet,
Free Odds, the Don't pass, the Come bet, and
placing the 6 or the 8. The bets are as follows:
The Pass Line Bet:
When you place your bet on the pass line before
a new shooter begins their roll, a simple Pass
Line bet begins. Physically, all you have to
do is place your chips in the middle of the big
band labeled the Pass Line. If the shooter rolls
a 7 or 11, you win. In case the shooter rolls
a 2, 3, or 12, you lose. If the shooter rolls
any other number, that number becomes the point
number and your bet stays up. To win your Pass
Line bet you want the shooter to roll that number
(the point) again before a seven is rolled. If
a seven is rolled before the point number is
rolled again, you lose the Pass Line bet. The
same process starts once again as soon as number
7 is rolled, or the point number. Though, very
few bets hold low house edge the game allows
the player to place innu merable amount of bets.
The Pass Line bet, probably the most common bet,
happens to hold one of the lowest house edges.
The Don't
Pass Bet:
To place this bet, you have to place your chips
in the narrow section just beyond the Pass Line
labeled Don't Pass. In this bet you win on 2,
3, or 12, and lose on numbers 7 or 11. A 12 on
the come out roll is like a push in Blackjack,
a position where nobody wins or loses. The number
that is rolled next becomes the point and you
win if 7 is repeated before the point is repeated.
Notice how this is the opposite of the Pass Line
bet, and also notice how you win when the shooter
loses. It may appear to be very nice of the casino
to offer an opposite bet of the normal one, but
the amount that the casino pays for a Don't pass
bet with odds is crappy, to say the least.
The Come Bet:
You'll quickly notice the
large area of the craps board labeled with 'Come' smack dab in
the middle of the playing area. Before reading
ahead please make sur you have read about the
Pass bet and other rules of craps given earlier.
If you know everything about Pass Line bet, then
understanding 'Come' bet will not be a problem
whatsoever. 'Come' bet is absolutely similar
to Pass Line bet except that, you can place your
bets even after the pointer is set. There is
nothing like a come bet on the Come out roll
as it will become absolutely similar to the ass
Line bet.
Other than this, there is
also a bet in which you can bet on a specific
number, as to it will be rolled before number
7. You can make a place bet at any time on
the numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. All you have
to do is through your chips on the table and
tell the dealer " I want to
place the bet on 8 " or any other number you
want to place your bet on.
Free Odds:
Free Odds
are available on the Pass, Don't Pass,
Come and Don't come bets. They add more confusion
to an already complicated game of craps. But,
having said that they provide the single best
bet in the casino so they are definitely worth
knowing. |
